Title: From Sensing to Decision Support: AI for Agriculture and Healthcare
Abstract
Advances in computer vision and machine learning offer new ways to observe complex biological systems, but translating these observations into useful decisions requires attention to the people who use them. This talk will explore that connection through examples from my research in agriculture and healthcare, including image-based crop phenotyping and animal welfare monitoring.
I will introduce the underlying research in structured representation learning, multimodal sensing, and adaptation to changing conditions, then discuss its implications for human interaction with AI systems. How should a system communicate uncertainty? What evidence helps a grower or clinician assess a prediction? How can expert feedback inform systems when data are limited or conditions change? These questions provide opportunities to connect AI methods with HCI research on interfaces, workflows, and evaluation in the communities these technologies are intended to serve.
